چکیده

Abstract Introduction A late bedtime is one of the most common characteristics sleep habits in modern society. This also case for schoolchildren, with negative consequences their academic performance. Light exposure at night, particularly blue wavelength light, was thought to delay bedtime, and melatonin suppression via light considered be mechanisms responsible delayed phase. Methods In current study, we evaluated effects partial blocking glasses (JINS Screen Lens Heavy [40%cut]) on salivary levels, circadian phase daytime behavior (via actigraphs questionnaires), without Standard Clean Lens) 39 male school children (ages between 10-12). The study design a cross over design, respective worn 3 hours before habitual two weeks, one-week washout period (with own regular glasses) sessions. Saliva collections questionnaires were performed during first second weeks each session, saliva collected -3, -2, -1, 0 bedtime. Actigraph data throughout evaluation periods. Results We found that while had no effect they did significantly advance compared non-filter session (bedtime: 22.03±0.08h vs. 22.1±0.1h, onset: 22.26±0.08h 22.36±0.10h, p= 0.04). filter noticeable week, where significant advances (-0.12h, p=0.03), onset (-0.14h, wake up time (-0.13h, p=0.02), leaving-bed p=0.02) from 1st week observed, whereas changes seen control (without filter). Along advancement irritability acting out towards siblings friends reduced session. Conclusion Our results suggest advanced improved but not mediated by secretion. Further research into involved warranted. Support (if any) supported Jins Holdings Inc (SPO236998).

Relationships between Salivary Melatonin Levels, Quality of Sleep, and Stress in Young Japanese Females

A decrease in the quality of sleep is believed to cause anxiety and worsen depression. Comparisons of salivary melatonin levels with different factors including quality of sleep, state and trait anxieties, and depression, were conducted to examine whether there is a relationship between melatonin, presumably associated with sleep, and psychological stress. The saliva of healthy young females wa...

Blocking Short-Wavelength Component of the Visible Light Emitted by Smartphones’ Screens Improves Human Sleep Quality

Background: It has been shown that short-wavelength blue component of the visible light spectrum can alter the circadian rhythm and suppress the level of melatonin hormone. The short-wavelength light emitted by smartphones’ screens can affect the sleep quality of the people who use these devices at night through suppression of melatonin. Objectives: In this study, we examined the effects of co...

Physical exercise accelerates reentrainment of human sleep-wake cycle but not of plasma melatonin rhythm to 8-h phase-advanced sleep schedule.

Effects of timed physical exercise were examined on the reentrainment of sleep-wake cycle and circadian rhythms to an 8-h phase-advanced sleep schedule. Seventeen male adults spent 12 days in a temporal isolation facility with dim light conditions (<10 lux). The sleep schedule was phase-advanced by 8 h from their habitual sleep times for 4 days, which was followed by a free-run session for 6 da...

Pulsing blue light through closed eyelids: effects on acute melatonin suppression and phase shifting of dim light melatonin onset

Circadian rhythm disturbances parallel the increased prevalence of sleep disorders in older adults. Light therapies that specifically target regulation of the circadian system in principle could be used to treat sleep disorders in this population. Current recommendations for light treatment require the patients to sit in front of a bright light box for at least 1 hour daily, perhaps limiting th...

Effects of evening light conditions on salivary melatonin of Japanese junior high school students

BACKGROUND: In a previous study, when adult subjects were exposed to a level of 400 lux light for more than 30 min or a level of 300 lux light for more than 2 hours, salivary melatonin concentration during the night dropped lower than when the subjects were exposed to dim illumination. It was suggested that such light exposure in adolescents or children during the first half of subjective night...
